Once the drywall has been completed, the exterior cladding of the house will begin. You'll see how the brick, stone, stucco, or whatever you use are placed. This is where additional exterior finishes, such as a garage and outdoor walkways, are poured with concrete. Once the roofing is continued, the house is considered “dry”.
An electrician then installs receptacles for outlets, lights and switches, and runs the wires from the switch panel to each receptacle. The construction of your new home involves six different steps, from excavating the foundations to the final cleaning and inspection. This is an overview of each phase of construction.
Construction begins with the excavation of the source site. The position of your house is placed on the ground and ready for the construction of the foundations. In the framing phase, the subfloor, walls and roof structure are constructed, and the roof is covered with shingles. Window and door units are installed.
The insulation is installed on the walls and the drywall is placed in each room for future installation. Water, gas and electricity services are also connected to your home. Towards the end of this phase, the builder will perform a pre-inspection of the drywall with you. This review is an opportunity to review the work already done in your home and discuss the work that needs to be done in the next three phases.
Ducts are installed for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system and, possibly, for the oven. HVAC vent tubes are installed through the roof and insulation is installed on floors, walls and ceilings. Insulation helps create a more comfortable and uniform indoor climate, while significantly improving the energy efficiency of the home. Most homes are insulated on all exterior walls, as well as in the attic and on any floor above basements or small unfinished spaces.
